A ball allows the vacuum to steer better and more efficiently than other models, and it uses Dyson’s Radial Root Cyclone technology. This is a technology that has been designed to pick up more dirt and dust – exactly what’s sitting on your hardwood floors.

Weighing just 11.6 pounds, the DC50 glides flawlessly on hardwood and carpet, and features ball technology to allow for easy cornering and maneuverability.

This vacuum self-adjusts on carpet and hardwood, too.

If you’re wondering what the major difference is between the two, the DC50 is a newer model and more advanced. We consider this a true tie (something unusual for us) as both models are around the same price and offer outstanding precision.

If you’re after the latest and greatest and love the color purple, it doesn’t get much better than the DC50.

Dyson V6 Animal Cord-free Vacuum Review – The V6 is a mid range product and it also comes in purple. Cordless in design, this vacuum lasts for 20 minutes on a single charge, and a trigger release ensures the vacuum is only wasting battery life while in use.

Perfect for stairs, basements and smaller hardwood areas, this model has 75% more brush power than the V6 (the next model we’ll review) and has a direct-drive that can dig deep into carpet to remove more dirt.

And a mini tool is available to get rid of pesky pet hair.

Extra-lightweight, this model weighs just 5 pounds and can work on all surfaces.

If you want a cordless vacuum, the V6 Animal is a great option that has superior battery life and suction power.

Dyson V6 Cord Free Vacuum Review – The original, the V6 is more of a budget option that the Animal, but it features less suction power. Great for mild cleanings, this cord-free model is hassle-free and also features 20 minutes of battery life that is fully controlled via the trigger release that only uses power when depressed.

Motorized cleaner heads push deep into carpet to remove dirt, and a carbon fiber filament works to remove dust from hardwood floors.

Edge-to-edge cleaning is offered with bristles that span the entirety of the brush head. There is also a mini tool for those times when you need to clean up pet hair, or want to clean steps that don’t do well with a big and bulky vacuum.

When choosing the right model for hardwood floors, you want to consider the following:

• Price: The budget you have will play a big role in your choice. With Dyson, they offer high-end models that have price tags in the premium end of the market, and you may find a few models in the high budget range. Choose the best model you can afford.
• Size: If you have a smaller home or apartment, you can choose a smaller model. Not only will smaller models be able to fit in smaller spaces, but these models can also be moved from one room to the other or upstairs with greater ease.
• Multi-Floor: You’re looking for a hardwood vacuum and I don’t want to dissuade you from buying one, but all of the models on our list can work on multiple floors. Dyson vacuums last for years, and you never know what flooring type you may have 5 years from now, so choose a model that is multi-floor if you can afford to do so.
• Brushes: If you have carpet, many models will have brushes that allow the head of the vacuum to dig deep into carpets to pick up more dirt. This is a good choice for anyone with thicker carpets, or anyone that has pets (their hair gets everywhere).
